I Have a Gift of Smell That Can’t Be Denied (Chapter 1)
Most of my adult life I have had a very sensitive an acute nose for identifying bad smells. When house shopping with the wife, it was easy for me to detect if the previous owner had a cat, dog or a combination of the two. This has been particularly helpful in identifying perfume and remembering the smell to describe to the department store clerk when making purchases for the wife. Last week I had to put this gift to work.
Wednesday evening I noticed a particularly bad smell coming from our master bedroom walk-in closet. MB didn’t notice because my “super” nose usually detected these things before the average human being. I raised the concern to MB since our water heater had burst a couple of months ago and we feared that the water damage may cause mold or mildew concerns in the closet area.
I immediately shifted shoes around and made an attempt to identify the source. I got a ladder and sniffed the ceiling area below the water heater and found nothing. I emptied the dirty clothes hamper in an effort to wash any wet gym clothes left from the past week. I obtained rug cleaner from the kitchen and sprayed down the walking area in an effort to deodorize the offensive culprit.
The next morning all I could smell was the rug cleaner and went to work confident that Bacchus “The Handyman” had tackled another household task.
So it seemed….stay tuned for Chapter 2
