I’m Picking the Giants to Win the Superbowl

Since the Dallas Cowboys are out of the picture and I can't stand cheaters,  I have to go with the New York Football Giants.  If the Pats do win, I will sign the petition to record the season with an asterisk.

We are having wings, family and fun during the game. What are your plans and or predictions?

Don’t Make the Mistakes I Did….

I've been reading African American Dad's site for a few weeks and this post touched me. He talks about the mistakes he's made in his life and wonders how to keep his son from doing the same in the future.  I often worry about that for my boys. Am I doing the right thing? Do they need me to be strong or understanding? Am I giving them what they need? That seems to be the hardest part to me.  As a child I often claimed that my parents were always doing the wrong thing with me, but it wasn't until adulthood did I appreciate what they believed to be the right things.

I came to the conclusion that I have to use my best judgment  and be myself.  I seem to make matters worse when I stray from my strengths.  Stop by AAD's site and take a look and see what you think.

What’s been going on….

I haven't been posting as much as I've liked so here is an update with what's been going on with us lately.

Baby B (Baby Bacchus) turned 1

He's walking now and getting into everything

Baby B Got tubes in his ear

This was a nightmare for us.  He had gotten an ear infection that was resistant to antibiotics and was in constant pain.

BJ Got Crabs

Not those kind….hermit crabs.  His aunt bought him three for x-mas and I knew that he wouldn't take care of them and after the fish incident, MB (Mommy Bacchus) refused to take on this maintenance responsibility.

BJ Got a Nintendo DS Game

I upgraded the GameBoy to the DS game, and was pleased with how well BJ adapted. See my post about this purchase here .

Taught BJ how to play Checkers and now starting to teach him Chess

A friend got me an oversized checker set from Cracker Barrel that you can lay on the floor and play.  Each piece is the size of a drink coaster and have enjoyed it.

Learned that the New Air-Conditioner we installed in the summer wasn't done right

We had our evaporator coil and outside condenser replaced and was done by a friend of a friend and now have to pay to fix the poor job they did.

Mommy Bacchus Lost 50+ pounds

She looks fantastic and really HOT….I gotta get my butt to the gym and stop blogging so much.

See upcoming posts…..

BJ Got a DS for X-Mas, Now what????

I struggled with this decision for weeks before deciding to make the purchase.  BJ (Bacchus Junior) had a Gameboy for two years and at times he struggled with some of the games because he couldn't read many of the directions (BJ is 6) that would pop up during the game.  It didn't make sense to spend that kind of money for something he may not be able to play with, but while visiting a friends house during the Thanksgiving holiday I changed my mind.

We stopped by a friends house who had invited us over the Thanksgiving desert (Everything was fantastic, I probably gained 5 pounds that evening).  BJ started playing with an older boy who is 12 and his PSP portable device. Although the older boy did a lot of explaining to BJ he was really having a blast and enjoyed it.  So the decision was made and the hunt began.  I searched many of the ads and talked to co-workers, and finally decided to visit Gamestop and see what packages they had.  I Was delighted to know that they had an exchange program if you bring in a used Gameboy you could get a new DS for only $99, plus 20% off two used games. This sold me on the purchase but I couldn't find any used games I thought he would like.  An added plus to the purchase was that he can use any of his Gameboy cartridges in the new DS device.  I purchased the Nintendo accessory pack and got new Mario and Pokemon cartridges to complete the purchase.

Just before Christmas he mentioned several times that he hoped he would get a DS, and I was silently happy that I made the decision.  Christmas came and he was pleasantly surprised.  He has thoroughly enjoyed his new games and happy to use some of his old gameboy cartridges as well.  The only tricky part to this whole transaction was telling him that the Gameboy had to go to the shop for repair, and Santa couldn't fix it so he replaced it with a DS device.  So now what???

Get More Organized: Make Lists

I added to my list of 100 things about me page. If you haven't noticed,  I use lists to organize my life.  I use a software program on my phone called ListPro to help keep up with things I think about on the go. I also use it on my desktop pc to keep up with things I need to work on and carry it around with me on my phone to keep on track.  I recently ran across a site called Listography .  For people like me, this is a very entertaining place to be.  You can create a multitude of different lists and you can add pictures and customize your color schemes.  What I often find myself doing is scrolling thru other peoples public lists (You can keep some lists private if you like) for hours at a time.

You can visit my lists by clicking below and look around and start making your

I am so ready for the writer’s strike to be over….

I came to this realization when I noticed that the highlight of my TV viewing week was watching American Gladiators and Carpoolers…..

Slowly some shows are coming back, but it has been a month or so. If it wasn’t for sports I don’t know what I’d do.

Prior to the holidays I as enjoying Journeyman and Bionic Woman. Those were two shows I couldn’t wait to view on my TIVO/DVR. I am trying to stick with Terminator: Sarah Connor Series, but after the premier episode, it’s kinda dragging. If anyone else has any suggestions, please let me know.

My Gift of Smell (Chapter 3)

Saturday morning came and BJ and I were on our way to his 9 am flag football game and he innocently asked, “Daddy, what’s that smell.” Oh my God.  BJ has apparently inherited my gift but more importantly, the smell has gotten into my clothes.  I started sniffing my shirt and underarms and could make out the smell, but still couldn’t identify it.  We went to the game and when we got back in the car, there it was standing there waiting for us like a officer worker waiting for the bus.  It was pretty stagnant in the car and we had to open all the windows to air it out.  I then made plans to have the car washed and knew that this was going to have to be a job that required my special attention.

We got back home and I took off my clothes and put on some house attire and did some daily chores. I noticed the smell now coming out from in the bedroom and had to stop what I was doing and get a handle on it.  MB took the kids out for a few hours to run some errands and I knew that this was the best opportunity for me to get in the closet and give the rug a good scrubbing. I gathered up some boxes and starting cleaning out the closet floor.  Moved everything out and got the industrial strength rug cleaner we buy from Sam’s.  I sprayed the rug down and gave it a good scrubbing with a broom brush.  Once it dried, I did another coating just to make sure.  The entire house started to smell like the rug cleaner and again, I went to bed confident this has been fixed.

MB came home and noted that the bedroom smelled great and thanked me for a job well-done. The next morning I got up, had my coffee and started to move things back into the closet.  I opened one of the boxes and the smell burst out of the box like a convict trying to break out of prison.  I dug through the box and found the culprit.
