The Dallas Mavericks will Win the NBA Championship Part II

I made a similar prediction two years ago, but the Miami Heat and the refs ruined it for me.

mavs.jpgAfter last season’s early playoff exit, I felt the one thing the Mavericks needed was a player to take the leadership role away from Dirk . Dirk is not a natural born leader and craters when the pressure is on. Every team in the league knows that all they have to do is shut down Dirk, and the castle will fall.

The Jason Kidd trade was the perfect move for the Mavericks. He is the floor general Avery Johnson is looking for. Initially everyone has noticed that Jason will bring out Dirk and Jason Terry, but the true benefactors (Mark Cuban reference) of Jason Kidd on the team will be Josh Howard and Jerry Stackhouse. I see those two flourishing with Kidd distributing the ball.

I just watched the Mavs play the Bulls tonight and I saw some magical things going on out there. Tonight San Antonio and Dallas match up and will provide a good test for the Mavericks. Once the role players find their grooves, the Mavs will be unstoppable. Hopefully the refs will stay out of the game outcomes.

I Refuse to Buy into the Obama Hype (now a supporter)

As part of the Obama Blog-out, I wanted to post this link from Grassroots Mom. If you want to review the records yourself on the candidates, then follow the links that Grassroots Mom has suggested and do your own research. A summary is below and a link to the site is at the bottom.

The next President is going to have some MAJOR challenges.

I refuse to buy into the hype, on either side, but especially on that of Obama. However the “empty rhetoric” v. “history of accomplishments” arguments have prompted me to check it out on my own, not relying on any candidate’s website, book, or worst of all supporters’ diaries, like this one.

I went to the Library of Congress Website. The FACTS of what each did in the Senate last year sure surprised me. I’m sure they will surprise you, too. Whether you love or hate Hillary, you will be surprised. Whether you think Obama is the second coming of JFK or an inexperienced lightweight, you will surprised. Go check out the Library of Congress Website. After spending some time there, it will be clear that there is really only one candidate would is ready to be the next president, even better than Gore. If you don’t want to spend an hour or two doing research, then I’ll tell you what I discovered on the jump.

A Parent’s Review of the Academy Award Winners

oscar.jpgAnd the Oscar goes to…..

Who? What? Was that a movie? Is he the director??????

Since becoming a parent, my movie watching activities have been contingent on the DVD/PPV release schedule. I know that most of you can relate to this. When we were young and childless, we’d go to the local movieplex a couple of times a month. Now as a responsible adult and parent, we’re lucky to get to the theatre a couple of times a year. This of course excludes any kid/family/disney releases. I have the pleasure of attending all the latest kid movies within the first couple of weeks of release with my oldest son, but it’s not anything with a rating of PG 13 or higher. Those don’t count.

So yes, I will sit in front of the TV tonight and watch parts of the awards ceremony with no actor/actress/director/movie to route for. The only thing I will be doing is trying to figure out which movies I’m going to put on my blockbuster list for rental and see three months from now. Yes, parenting changes our entertainment activity choices, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Besides, I watched an all-day Pokemon marathon today with my son. No award show can match that.

Gotta go put the little ones to bed. (orchestra music playing in the background)

God Bless and Goodnight. -

I voted today…..

and it was exhilarating. Brought BJ with me so he could watch, but he was more interested in playing basketball in the gym next to us. Well, it’s over and boy am I glad. Pollster mentioned that the traffic has been higher this week than all his years working the polls. Based on his apparent age, he’s been around to make that statement. Wow….that felt great.

Ywater: Ynot

ynot.jpg

Coochicoos has this item highlighted on their site and I can’t wait to get my hands on some. Y Water is a new vitamin-infused organic drink targeted at kids with a unique bottle designed by designer Yves Behar. The bottle also has a second life as a toy using connectors that come with each bottle to join with other bottles. I plan to buy some for my 6 year old and then let my one year old play with the bottles. What a fantastic idea. Available at Whole foods in March.

I Support Senator Barack Obama

I support him so much I joined a group of bloggers (Shawn at Dallas South Blog) who share stories and resources for posting materials about the Senator. There are many reasons my support is behind Mr. Obama and I will make some of them apparent in the next few weeks in an effort to spread his words and ideals. If you also support the Senator, please consider joining our efforts and sharing your support by adding the button on the left. I wrote a post on the Bloggers4Obama site suggesting ways fellow bloggers can get involved. The week prior to the Texas and Ohio primaries we are planning something special so stop by for updates on our efforts.

How Bloggers can help Senator Obama

If you would like to learn more about the Senator, consider one of the books I identified in my left sidebar or visit the official Obama site as a resource.

Photo Book: “Pop: A Celebration of Black Fatherhood”

popI ran across this post and just had to share it with others. It’s rare to see Black Fatherhood celebrated and not the butt of some comical skit on TV, so I find this book very refreshing and look to add it to my collection. Visit the Dodge and Burn Site for a review.
