Kindness Project Update:

Well the week is over and I have had a number of people comment and wish to participate in the project. I will be sending out kindness coins this week and posting the serial #’s so that we can all track them. I also came to a decision to keep the project open indefinately. So if you missed the first week, it’s not too late to jump on board.

I am sending out kindness coins to anyone who comments on these postings and wishes to participate. The program works by registering a coin on the Kindness Project Website and I then mail them to any participants. When someone does something nice for you, you pass the coin on to them and ask that they enter the transaction on the website. I will post an update whenever a transaction for the coin is entered.

So leave a comment and I will contact you to receive a coin…

Help spread Kindness

Welcome Renter: The Reluctant Housewife

I want to introduce everyone to my first renter on Parenting Toys, The Reluctant Housewife.

I was very impressed with her site and she writes a diary with great humor. It’s a refreshing breath of fresh air, considering most of us write crap…..Plus she has a flickr account, a member of the “Crazy Hip Hop Mama’s” webring (I am a member also, even though I am a Dad) and watches Grey’s Anatomy. See her post about “The Glass Slippers” and you will know what I mean. So please show her some “click love” and visit her during this next week. Please click on the rent my blog icon on the right sidebar to visit her site.
Below is some of her work on flickr

The Kindness Project

This weekend the family and I visited a small mom & pop store for some items we needed and while being run up at the cash register, I saw a display of these “Kindness” coins. While waiting for my total, I read the display and was spell-bound. The way it works is that you purchase a coin and register it on the “Kindness Project” website. Each coin has its own unique serial #. Once someone does something kind for or to you, you pass the coin on to them and ask them to add a comment on the website and pass it on to another person.

The shop owner saw me contemplating whether or not I should purchase the coin, so he just gave it to me for free. His kind act is the first entry for this coin. I am looking for volunteers to accept the passing on of this coin and others. Please comment to this post and describe something kind that you recently did and I will send coins to anyone who wants to particpate. I will open the offer for one week and it will end Sunday evening March 12, 2006. Below is a summary from their website of the project:

The Kindness Project aims to prove that you can have an exponential effect on the spread of kindness around the world. It’s simple - when someone does or says something kind, no matter how small, you give them a token. Taking a few seconds to pass on the token empowers you to brighten someone’s day. The tokens are passed from person to person, again and again, turning the world into a kinder place. Can you imagine how you would feel if you received a token yourself?

The beauty of the Kindness Project is that not only do you get to make a difference in someone’s day by giving them a token, but everyone gets to track their token and read about all its adventures. Be a part of the Kindness Project by passing on your own tokens!

Remember, comment and describe your kindness and we will see where this takes us.

Update: Since some may be uncomfortable sending me their mailing address to receive a free coin, please purchase one from the site and leave us the serial# in this post so we can all track them.

What’s the next British TV show America is going to steal: Footballers Wives

I have become a fan of BBC television every since I read an article recommending “Coupling” and “The Office.” I bought the DVD’s and after getting adjusted to some of the accents, fell in love. I told all my co-workers about “The Office” before it hit American Shores and now have them hooked on the American Version. So what’s the next British TV show America is most likely to steal: “Footballers Wives.” I am late getting into this show and have seen several shows from the first two years, but got lost while not being able to see them in the regular sequence.

To summarize, many call it Desperate Housewives meets North Dallas Forty. If you have the BBC channel on your cable or satellite lineup, take a look and I promise you will be pleasantly surprised.

The show gives you a look at selfish, transparent, materialistic sports celebrity wives and how their athletic husbands could care less about them. This would be perfect for American TV. ESPN tried a sports show last year, but it focused on the athletes. Shame on them, the drama that the wives display will make you laugh, cringe and smile with glee….If you have seen the show and have other thoughts, please share.

I got this off sfgate.com

Here’s the very basics of the series: The footballers — soccer players to you Americans — play for a club called Earls Park. The players are either devious themselves or have devious wives (or girlfriends). The team owner is evil. The soccer-ball-busting agent for many of the players is a power-mad, sex-crazed lesbian. Clothes fly off. Situations become ridiculous.
Add Champagne.
That’s pretty much all you need to know.

The first two years are out of DVD and season 3 is running now.

What to do with out of season clothing

I came up with a great fix to a problem I was having. What do I do with all the holiday shirts and sweaters that Bacchus Jr. still can get into, but is inappropriate to wear to daycare or out shopping.

The solution:
Since Bacchus Jr. occasionally has accidents at daycare that require us to leave an extra change of clothes in his cubby, that is what I am doing with the out of season clothes. Now the clothes have an extended function and I can get more than two wears out of them. Sometimes I leave for work early and don’t know what he had on in the morning when Mommy Bacchus dropped him off. If I see him in a bright red christmas tree sweater when I pick him up in the evenings, I clearly know that he had an accident or spilled something on them. This is now my clue to get his dirty clothes out of his cubby so they don’t stink up the classroom during the next day.

An added benefit is that I have also taken some of these clothes over to his grandparents house and babysitter so they always have something just in case he spills water paint all over himself…..

African American Lives | PBS

African American Lives | PBS

This is the best thing I have seen on TV since Alex Haley’s ROOTS !!!!!

Last week I heard on the radio about a PBS documentary concerning African American history and tracing our past lineages and hosted by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Since I have been a fan of Dr Gates for years, I thought I would check it out. I didn’t get home in time to set up my DVR (Digital Video Recorder) to record it from the beginning so I did a search and found that it also re-played last night. Wow, WOW, WWWWOOOOOOW. This is a must see for every African American in this country. Not only did they trace the family histories of several celebrities, Dr. Gates also had genetic tests to identify what percentage of their ancestors were European, African, Asian or Indian. To top it off, they also conducted a second series of tests to narrow done to specific tribes and countries your DNA most likely came from. You have got to see the expressions and results they found for Oprah, Quincy Jones, Whoopi Goldberg and Chris Tucker. You will be shocked and amazed at what this technology can identify.

I read about this genetic testing in Black Enterprise magazine and found that anyone can find out their own genetic results. Go to www.Africanancestry.com

PalmInfocenter.com: Palm Says 3 New Treo Smartphones in 2006
Palm CEO Ed Colligan stated in todays Palm’s earnings conference call that Palm will announce three new smartphones next year, in addition to the Treo 700w. Read on for more details.

“We’ll roll out the Palm Treo 700w smartphone based on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile, and we’ll announce three additional new smartphones during calendar year 2006.” said said Ed Colligan. During the conference call he further stated that these new models will debut with new industrial designs and at different price points. They will also implement next-generation radio technologies.

Colligan also stated that one of these models was designed specifically for a large international carrier and may not ever see a US release.

This announcement confirms earlier rumors about new Treo products in 2006. That report stated Palm plans a Treo 700p (similar model as the 700w running Palm OS Garnet) as well as two new designs code-named “Hollywood” and “Lowrider”.
