Critical Info Providers

Critical Info Providers

I saw this website on TV over the holiday weekend and just now had a chance to check them out. This is a great way to get information to authorities fast. This can also be used in combination with my camera phone post about picture taking of your little ones at the beginning of public events. Just think, while at the amusement park and your little ones gets lost, Critical Info Providers will email your child’s vital info in the matter of minutes to the authorities. According to statistics from their website,

The first 3 hours after a loved one is missing are the most critical
It can take detectives an average of 4 hours to receive the information on missing love ones, and sometimes days. 67% of Alzheimer’s patients are at one time reported to the police as missing.

There is a $30 registration fee per family and $5 for each individual registration. I pulled the following additional information from their website.

When a family learns a loved one is missing through child abduction, Alzheimer’s, kidnapping, mental disabilities, natural disasters, or by any other unexpected means, law enforcement needs critical information, i.e. recent photographs, height, weight, fingerprints, dental records, list of friends, places they frequently visit, and a list of medications. You may not be at a suitable location to provide this critical information. Furthermore, you may not be able to provide this information due to the stressful situation.
How does one provide this information to law enforcement when you are not at the scene and when your mind is in a state of panic?

You are a phone call away. You notify C.I.P. and we will immediately email this information for you to the local and surrounding law enforcement agencies needing the information. As the investigation expands, so will our services. C.I.P. has the capabilities to email this information to law enforcement agencies nationwide.

Offers its members an emergency 24 hour hotline
Distributes information and picture to law enforcement nationwide
Provides a professional sketch artist in the event your loved one is not found

Notes for the Babysitter

Many of us have family and friends who we trust to watch our children, but what do you do when you have to go outside of that comfort zone. We found that our local hospital nurse and daycare center are wonderful resources to find quality sitters of infants and toddlers. When we had our first babysitter come to our home, I found myself constantly writing notes each time she came so I began to create a document that would need a little editing and I could print it out when needed. I used a template from a software program I had on my pc to get started, then I found a pullout from parenting magazine that was a nice addition to my notes. The link below is from a November 2004 article

ConsumerReports.org - Childproofing devices 11/05

If you subscribe to consumer reports then you have probably seen this article. If you don’t, then run to the newstand and pick up the November issue. Anyone that has a newborn and starting to think about baby proofing their house, then this is a must read. We had the benefit of having a baby proofing specialty store around when we had our first child, and their suggestions helped us tremendously. I would highly recommend that you consider the products they suggest and stay away from the ones they rated as “Not Acceptable.” You can click on the link above to read a summary but you will need to subscribe to get the details, but again, it’s worth the subscription.

Graco TurboBooster Youth Booster Seat

Amazon.com: TurboBooster Youth Booster Seat: Victory Print: Baby

This year my son finally became large enough to upgrade from a car seat to a booster seat. Before I began my research on the best one to buy, I have always noticed how cool the Graco Turbo Booster in the super stores (Wal-mart/Target/Sam’s etc.) looked. I immediately dismissed the Graco because something that cool couldn’t possibly be safe. It has cup holders on both sides and an adjustable headrest. My son feels like he is a race car driver when he’s in it.

Do you know who is watching your children when you are not???

A friend of mine forwarded a link to this website and I found it astounding. You can click on the “find offender” button and put in your address or any address you are interested in and find what sexual offenders live or work in the area. Once you are looking at the map, you can click on one of the boxes and see their pictures. This is a must for any parent……

To look up offenders is free, but they do offer other paid services that can notify you any time a sexual offender moves in your area.

Use Your Camera Phone at Public Events

I went to the Texas state fair the other day with my family and took my digital camera to take pictures that will hopefully make family memories. For the past month, my wife and I have been experimenting with taking pictures of our son and emailing them back and forth on our cell phones. I never dreamed this exercise could potentially help our child.
